House re-elected West City president

In West City, Ron House won easy election as village president over his challenger, Mike Reed. House won with 59 percent of the vote out of 188 ballots cast. Bruce Watkins won an unexpired two-year term as village trustee over Steve Mumbower. Darren M. Romani, Linda Sullivan and Dale Watkins all ran unopposed for village trustee positions.


Storey, Hart and Clark claim spots on Library Board
In a four-person race for seats on the Benton Public Library Board of Trustees, Kathy L. Storey, Stephanie K. Hart and Deborah K. Clark emerged victorious. The three won six-year terms to the board. Kelli D. Whittington fell short in her bid, coming in just five votes behind Hart. Pat Hollada ran unopposed for an unexpired two-year term.

Ashmore dominates in Sesser mayor race
In Sesser, Mayor Jason Ashmore decisively fended off a challenge from Glenn D. Gulley, winning 84 percent of 605 votes cast. Dana Laur beat Barry W. Ramey for a ward 1 alderman seat, and Richard Lee Miller prevailed over Jeff W. Harmon in ward 2. In ward 3, Alan Wayne Shannon topped Edith D. Hawk.

Claxton defeats Deaton for Christopher treasurer
In the city of Christopher, City Treasurer Michael Deaton fell to a challenge from Katrina Claxton, who took 54 percent of 456 votes. In a contested race for ward 3 alderman, Brian Hargis easily prevailed over Marshall Deron Johnson. Mayor Gary Bartolotti, City Clerk Stephen Gilbert, and aldermen Thomas Borgra and Donald Miklos all ran unopposed.

West Frankfort, Thompsonville elect school board members
A hotly contested race for the Frankfort No. 168 Board of Education ended Tuesday with the election of Keith Griffith to a two-year unexpired term. Elected to four-year terms were Gayle Crawford, Warren Campbell Brown, Jon Alexander and Amanda S. Tinsley. In Thompsonville, Natalie K. Dixon, Michael A. Miller and Krista McFarland Shelby won four-year terms on the No. 174 Board of Education.

Three win Board of Managers seats
In Benton Township, Marty Shadowen, Joyce Atchison and Albert L. Smith won election to the Community Building Board of Managers. Richard "Dick" Rouse was defeated. The remaining races in Benton Township were uncontested. David Garavalia won election as township supervisor, Danny Burnett was elected clerk, Gerald Owens was elected assessor, and ark Smith was elected highway commissioner. Bobby Blondi, Terry L. Ray, Jonathan D. Neace and Michael E. McGuire all were elected township trustees.
