William "Chick" DeMattei

William "Chick" DeMattei, 91, of Benton passed away Thursday morning August 11, 2016 athis daughter's home in Mt. Vernon.

He was born in Benton, IL on October 3, 1924 the son of Joe & Ernestine (DeMattei). He married June Hayse on June 19, 1948 and she preceded him in death December 6, 1970. He married Vera Odom on October 29, 1977 and she survives.

He was a World War II Army Veteran serving from June 8, 1943 to March 17, 1946. He started Chick's Market with his Sister in Benton. He then went to work for Halliburton and retired from there. He worked in Nigeria for several years. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Benton.

Erika Adornetto, Abbie Poe, Adam Hooper, Katie Hooper,

Jimmy Wells, Anna Rentfro, Jeff Rentfro, Lisa Pierce, 

James David Rentfro, Amber Smith, Stephen Strickland, 

Brook Dickneite, Mason WIlliams & Andrea Williams.

Mr. DeMattei was preceded in death by his Parents, 1st wife, Daughter-Rhea Eva Odom, Granddaughter-Alicen Wells, by 2 Sisters & 1 Brother.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday August 13th at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with Father Joseph Trapp officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Masoinc & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be after 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to a Church of your choice.
