Murphysboro – Mary Kay Thomas, 75 of Murphysboro passed away at 4pm on Friday, April 15, 2016 in Mt. Vernon, IL. Mary Kay was born in Benton, IL. on September 20, 1940 a daughter to the late Roland Grant and Lillie (Ing) Harris.

May Kay was a member of the First Christian Church in Murphysboro; she was a long time member of the Murphysboro Apple Festival committee serving specifically on the Miss Apple Festival Pageant subcommittee. She was crowned Miss Springfield, IL. in 1960. Mary Kay was employed as a secretary and administrative assistant for the Tri-County Special Education School in Murphysboro and the Illinois Department of Transportation in Carbondale.

Memorial services will be at 11am on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Murphysboro; Pastor Rick Sutton of the First Christian Church will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro and from 10an until the hour of services on Wednesday at the church. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the Miss Apple Festival Pageant Scholarship and will be accepted at the funeral home and church.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law; Todd Thomas of New York, NY., Joel and Cathy (Howell) Thomas of Goreville, IL. and Andy and Abby (Pearson) Thomas of Virginia, City, MT. one sister; Jody Donosky of Evansville, IN.,, three grandchildren; Ellen Thomas and Joe and Josh Burton, she is also survived by her former husband; Milton Ronald Thomas. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister Polly Ann Weathers and two brothers-in-law; Ted Donosky and Jack Weathers.
