Josephine Frances Piecentini McCabe was called to be with our Lord on March 19, 2016. Josephine passed peacefully at Stella Maris in Timonium, Md., with family at her side.
While the chaplain came in for a visit, and was mid reading Psalm 23, Josephine took her last breath. "Jo," "Sissy," "Mom," "Grandma," "Grandma Fatcat," "GG", "G" was born on April 25, 1928, in Benton. She was 87.
While growing up in Benton, "Sissy" enjoyed being surrounded by her relatives and her sister, Ann, attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, played the trombone in the Benton High School marching band, attended high school sporting events, 4-H leader, and later was a secretary for Benton High School. While Jo attended secretarial school in St. Louis, she worked at Ralston Purina.
Jo moved to Maryland to raise her family where she was active in her community: Reisterstown Jaycees, Carroll, Grace, and Mays Chapel United Methodist churches, PTA's of Franklin Elementary, Middle, and high schools, Owings Mills Recreation Department, 4-H, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and The Baltimore Tall Club.
Jo was a public servant serving the citizens of Baltimore County, Maryland and a long time career secretary for the State of Maryland, and MPT. No one could type faster than Jo! After her retirement, she became a receptionist at the JCC.
Everyone whom knew Jo, appreciated that she was a fun loving social person! She loved being a mother and grandmother, babysitting, swimming, puzzles, word searches, crossword puzzles, games, watching the Ravens and Orioles games, and spending time with her family.
She is the daughter of the late Mary and Joseph Piecentini, and sister of the late Ann (Piecentini) Pyszka, of Benton.
She is survived by her four daughters, Fran McCabe, Karla (McCabe) Capece, Mary Jo McCabe, and Sharon (McCabe) Welsch; two sons-in-law; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McCabe donated her body to the University of Maryland Anatomy Board to assist in the furthering of the science and medical fields. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Mays Chapel United Methodist Church, 11911 Jenifer Road, Timonium, Md. 21093.
