ATLANTA, Ga — The man accused of killing three people from Franklin County and injuring two others will spend decades in prison.
Jorge Solis, 21, pleaded guilty to 18 counts in an Atlanta courtroom Monday. A judge sentenced him to 75 years. He'll have to serve at least 50.
Prosecutors said Solis pleaded guilty to several charges including homicide by vehicle, serious injury by vehicle, DUI and possession of alcohol by a minor.
On Father's Day in 2015, Solis was drunk when he drove the wrong direction on Interstate 75 and crashed into a car full of people from Franklin County.
Kaybrin Osborn, 8, Hallie Young, 7, and Mike Furlow died in the crash.
The driver, Mike Osborn and Clayton Flood, 3, survived but suffered serious injuries.
"They say I was lucky to have walked out of that car, but honestly, I would've rather just stayed in it," Michael Osborne told an Atlanta television station. Kaybrin Osborn is the grandson of Michael Osborn.
In the same report, Justin Osborn, the child's father, said, "We need hard punishments for DUI."
Prosecutors say Solis had a blood alcohol content of .175 at the time of the crash.
Solis was underage at the time of the deadly wreck. It was revealed in court that just months prior to the accident he was arrested for driving under the influence.
