Five area residents given prison sentences

BENTON — Five people were given prison sentences in Franklin County Circuit Court on Monday, according to a news release from State's Attorney Evan Owens.
The following defendants were sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections:

  • Dustin T. Brasel, 23, Sesser, was sentenced to three years to DOC followed by a two-year period of mandatory supervised release on a charge of aggravated sexual abuse. The sentence is to run concurrent with a charge of child pornography. The pornography charge carries a one-year period of mandatory supervised release. The incident occurred between June 23 and Aug. 31, according to officials. The case was investigated by the Franklin County Sheriff's Department.
  • Lexie L. Mutchek, 30, Benton, was sentenced to one year to DOC followed by a one-year period of mandatory supervised release on a charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. The incident occurred on Aug. 20. The case was investigated by the Illinois State Police Drug Task Force.
  • Cody James, 28, Ina, was sentenced to four years followed by a one-year period of mandatory supervised release on a charge of retail theft which occurred on July 29. The case was investigated by the West City Police Department.
  • Charles T. Payton, 24, Benton, was sentenced to two years in prison followed by a one-year mandatory supervised release on a charge of aggravated battery. The incident occurred on July 30, 2013. The case was investigated by the West City Police Department.
  • Jeffery A. Haremski, 24, Marion, was sentenced to three years in prison followed by a two-year mandatory supervised release on a charge of burglary which occurred on Nov. 21, 2013. The case was investigated by the West Frankfort Police Department.
