An Illinois state senator is beginning his run for United States Congress and has set a guideline for himself to not become a career politician.
State Sen. Kyle McCarter, R-54, has started his campaigning for state's 15th Congressional District. McCarter, a strong advocate for term limits who pledged to limit the time he spent as a county board member and a state senator, has honored that pledge.
"The problem with career politicians is they make decisions that protect their power and pension," McCarter said. "Unfortunately our congressman, having been in office 20 years has become a problem."
McCarter also stated that a career politician is not what the people need but a businessman.
He is an entrepreneur since graduating college from Oral Roberts University in 1984, and is labeled at a "Job Creator." He owns and operates two manufacturing companies in Illinois and understands the importance of a strong economy and job growth, he said.
"We have to win this war on coal," McCarter said. "I try to get involved in whatever we can do to help coal."
Kyle and his wife, Victoria, travel to Kenya several times a year to work with Each One Feed One, an international, faith-based organization delivering care and education to orphans and widows. The two have been married for 31 years and have two sons, Austin and Zach, and two wonderful daughters-in-law, Catherine and Claire.
McCarter stated that a plan of his and his team is to find time to audit the VA Hospital financials because the system is flawed and millions of dollars are wasted. The current congressmen aren't supporting our veterans because they can't write the big checks like the large energy companies.
"Veterans need to be represented, and I will represent them for free," McCarter said. "If you have been in office for 20 years, and haven't done anything, you are in for the wrong reasons."
McCarter is a supporter of gun rights and has been co-sponsor for the conceal carry bills, sporting a bumper sticker that says "My Gun My Right."
McCarter says that Washington doesn't have a revenue problem it has a spending problem. That the federal debt is nearing $20 trillion because of out of control spending of career politicians. Hard-working Americans and future generations should not be burdened with that debt.
Along with his pro stance toward term limits and the 2nd amendment, McCarter is also pro-life and an avid supporter for, what he calls, wholesome American values.
"There are American values we need to protect and the issue of marriage between one man and one woman is one of those," McCarter said.
McCarter will continue campaigning, traveling to all 33 counties in this district.
