Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department will conduct a free walk-in testing day at its Benton and Marion locations available to those who wish to be tested for HIV.

The testing takes place on Thursday, Dec. 1, recognized as World AIDS Day.

The day is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection.
The Center for Disease Control estimates that more than 1 million people are living with HIV infection in the United States — and one in five of those people living with HIV is unaware of his or her infection.

Bi-County will be performing HIV tests at its Benton location, 403 E. Park, from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday and at its Marion location, 8160 Express Dr., from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Testing will be free of charge and confidential and/or anonymous. You must be 13 years of age or older to be tested.

To this day, Americans are walking around unaware of their status. Certain behavioral risks also put people at a higher risk than most people.

Have you ever injected drugs and shared the needles? Has the condom ever broken? Was a condom not available? Have you ever had sex with a man who has had sex with other men? If you are male, have you had unprotected sex with other males?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you should get an HIV test. Do your part: Get tested.
