The Gilbert & Sullivan comedic operetta "The Mikado" will be performed at the historic Sesser Opera House at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets may be purchased by calling 625-5322.

Friday, May 28
• Christopher High School Class of 1980 mixer, 7 p.m., T-Street Pub, Christopher. All class members and anyone else who would like to attend are welcome.
Saturday, May 29
• USA Dance, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., Corner Dance Hall, Whittington. Lesson, 7 to 8 p.m. Everyone welcome. Bring a friend.
Saturday, May 29, through Monday, May 31
• The Historic Mt. Pleasant Church, located halfway between Rend City and Valier just off Park Street Road, Open House. The church will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, and noon to 4 p.m. Monday. Donations will be accepted to help with needed repairs and upkeep of the building. Everyone is invited to stop in for a visit and see the new shutters purchased last fall.
Sunday, May 30
• The historic Liberty Church, southeast of Thompsonville (near the site of the first Frank Jordan fort), will hold its annual Homecoming. Potluck at noon followed by a short meeting and music by Crystal River. For more information, call Larry Mabry, 937-1620 or 937-3953.
• Ceremony to honor area war heroes, 2 p.m., Section N of Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery, Benton. The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans are hosting the event.

• Members of the Christopher American Legion Honor Guard will visit cemeteries according to the following schedule: St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery, 8 a.m.; Veterans Memorial, 8:15 a.m.; Mulkeytown Cemetery, 8:45 a.m.; Greenwood Cemetery, 9:15 a.m.; Ward Cemetery, 9:30 a.m.; Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 9:45 a.m.; Smith Cemetery, 10 a.m.; and Harrison Cemetery, 10:15 a.m. For more information, call Joe Binando at 724-9540.
