Behind the hot shooting of Lloyd Phillips, Illinois State handed Southern Illinois its first loss in almost a month, 68-61, on Sunday.
The Redbirds (11-3, 2-1) trailed by five at halftime, but Phillips scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the second half to rally his team. The senior guard had been mired in a season-long shooting slump. He came into the game converting 26 percent from 3-point range, but made but 4-of-6 on the night.
