CHESTER -- Volunteers, as always, gave a helping hand to the Chester Area Christian Food Pantry Mobile Market recently.

Volunteers at the monthly food distribution - held at 9 a.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Chester Cohen Recreation Complex parking lot - loaded food into about 100 cars on Oct. 23.

In September, about 272 households with 715 individuals were served. While food and other necessities are provided by the St. Louis Food Bank, other items are required to help round out the pantry's offerings.

Items needed to help restock the pantry are cereal, tuna fish, and peanut butter.

This year for the annual Thanksgiving basket giveaways the pantry would appreciate a monetary donation instead of food donations.

The pantry started distributing Thanksgiving food bags last week.

Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students at St. Mary's Catholic School helped during the October food giveaway, and frequently help with distribution of food at the food pantry.
