DAR welcomes new U.S. citizens

CARBONDALE -- Several members of the Michael Hillegas Chapter, NSDAR, recently welcomed new U.S. citizens.

Regent Janice Hall, secretary Sharon Tanner, state librarian Sharon Pyle, flag chairman Candy Evans, good citizen chairman Kathy R. Morris participated in the United States District Court Southern District of Illinois Naturalization Ceremony, held recently at the Lesar Law Library at Southern Illinois University, where individuals officially became American citizens.

U.S. Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft presented 59 candidates for naturalization. The Honorable Judge J. Phil Gilbert then administered the Oath of Allegiance to those candidates. Candidates from about 29 countries met at the law library at Southern Illinois University to officially become American citizens.

After the new American citizens received their certificate, DAR members welcomed each one individually and presented them with an American flag and a flag code leaflet.
