Lamb and meat goat weigh-ins Saturday
The Saline County 4-H Lamb and Meat Goat Weigh-Ins will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 at the Saline County Fairgrounds. 4-H members enrolled in Market Sheep or Market Meat Goat projects who want to participate in the Saline County 4-H Rate of Gain Contests for those species must attend.

Market Sheep and Market Meat Goat projects will be weighed for the 4-H Rate of Gain Contests. These animals, along with beef and swine projects, are weighed out during Fair Week in July. The exhibitor of the animal of each species with the greatest daily weight increase will receive a traveling trophy, presented prior to the start of the 4-H Livestock Auction in July.

For those who do not want to participate in the Rate of Gain contests, market entries for lambs and goats are due to the Extension Office 10 days after the weigh-in, Tuesday, May 7.

Goat showmanship clinic on April 27
Attention Saline County 4-H goat exhibitors! Are you a new exhibitor? Have you shown goats before but need some pointers?

The Saline County 4-H Livestock Committee will hold a Goat Showmanship Clinic from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 at the fairgrounds. The clinic will immediately follow the Lamb and Meat Goat Weigh-in.

Even if you are not participating in the Weigh-in, bring your favorite meat or dairy goat and come out to the Fairgrounds Livestock Building to learn all you will need to know to have success in the show ring this summer!

Goat Superintendent Rachel Parish and Lyndsey Watson will discuss show basics and help youth as they practice in the show ring. Lyndsey is a vet tech and a top goat showman at the state level.

Youth will take home some great information on nutrition, parasite control, fitting and more! Call the Extension office if you can attend.
