The Prom Court has been announced and preparations are nearly complete for the 2019 Prom, "Enchanted Forest" on April 6 in the Juergen Gym.
In years past the prom -- then called the Spring Dance -- was sponsored by the CHS Student Council, which did all of the planning, organizing, and implementing of the activities related to the dance.
Recently, however, the dance has been in the hands of the junior class. Members of the class make all of the decisions pertaining to the event and they take charge of making it all happen.
The faculty representatives who are the prom sponsors are Sophia Durbin and new CHS teacher Beth Brown.
The junior class committee has 17 students. They are Adeline Blechle, Lauren Vasquez, Autumn Dunn, Maddie Hasemeyer, Ryn Petrowske, Mabry Miles, Amira Al-Jassim, Taryn Baker, Grace Stec, Molly Rowold, Kira McGhee, Bailey Wahl, Taylor Hennrich, Chloe Page, Alyssa Place, Jaci South and Ashtyn Jany.
On Saturday, the doors to the gym open at 8 p.m. This year, as last, the prom committee has decided to use a musical playlist created by members of the committee with input from students schoolwide. In recent years professional D.J.'s were popular and in decades past, live bands were brought in.
Times change and students now apparently want to be more economical and insure they will hear music popular to this generation.
Lifetouch Photography has been hired to take professional photos of prom-goers.
The 2019 Prom Court was nominated March 26 by members of the junior and senior classes and nominees were announced March 27.
This year there will be a 2019 Prom Prince and Princess elected from among six junior class candidates and a 2019 Prom King and Queen elected from among 10 senior class candidates.
Junior Class Prince and Princess candidates are Chett Andrews, Adeline Blechle, Ethan Rayburn, Ashtyn Jany, Ian Reith and Ryn Petrowske.
Senior Class King and Queen candidates are Drake Bollman, Cara Childs, Erik Cowell, Sylena Martin, Jakob Cushman, Elizabeth Soellner, Nick Meyer, Carlee Weir, Colin Wingerter and Lauren Welge.
The coronation will take place at 9 p.m. during the dance. Parents and friends are welcome to attend the coronation. Doors will open to the public at 8:30 p.m. After the coronation, guests are asked to leave the dance.
Tickets are now on sale for $15 for an individual or $25 for a couple. Tickets are being sold only during lunch periods.
