Four teams will compete in the 13th annual Platinum Chef Team Challenge for high school students, starting at 9 a.m. on March 27 in the Red Bud High School gymnasium.

Competitors are from Chester, Red Bud, Waterloo and Columbia.

The goal of the challenge is to encourage excellence in the area of culinary arts, and is sponsored by Red Bud High School, Monroe-Randolph Regional Office of Education, Okaw Regional Vocational System and Southwestern Illinois College.

The competition is similar to "Iron Chef" on TV, as teams must prepare and present to the judges an appetizer tray, a salad plate, an entree plate, and a dessert plate in a specified amount of time.

Teacher input is limited to three, 3-minute conferences.

The teams will be judged on their effort, organization, plating, presentation and food quality.

The competition is open to the public and ends around 1:30 p.m.

Awards will be presented after the competition.
