HARRISBURG -- Michael Hillegas Chapter/NSDAR Regent Sharon Tanner and Veterans Chairman Shelia Albright met with Joh Ann Pyle on May 30 to present Pyle and her family with the Department of Defense Vietnam War Commemoration Certificate of Honor and a lapel pin.
This certificate and lapel pin are provided by the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration Certificate of Honor Program. It is for a deceased Vietnam veteran's surviving spouse at the time of death of a veteran who served on active duty in the United States Armed Forces at any time during the period from November 1, 1955 to May 5, 1975, regardless of location.
According to Pyle, her husband Sgt. 1st Class Billy Ray Pyle served in the United States Army from 1960-1980. He entered into the Vietnam War in January 1966. He told his family of his many experiences during his 20 years of service. Pyle shared, with much love and understanding, that her husband told her that although he missed her and their children, he wanted to stay with his unit until every man came home.
By presenting the certificate, the Michael Hillegas DAR Daughters expressed their appreciation to Billy Ray Pyle and Joy Ann Pyle for their commitment and sacrifice to this country.
