Are you a Vietnam veteran? Are you related to or know of a Vietnam veteran, living or deceased?

The Southern Illinois LOCAL Media Group, of which this newspaper is a part, is undertaking a project to honor every southern Illinois Vietnam veteran. Our goal is to identify as many vets as possible, and also look at how the war affected our region.

We are asking for a photo of the veteran, along with his or her name, hometown, and as much as you can tell us about his/her dates of birth and death (if the veteran is living, just the year of birth), years of service in Vietnam, branch of service and rank. Also, we'd like a brief tribute of up to 35 words.

Photos can be from any stage in the vet's life, not just military service. Vets who lived in southern Illinois but now live elsewhere are eligible.

We are asking for $5 with each submission, to help us defray the cost of the newsprint.

Email submissions and photos to Devan Vaughn at dvaughn@localsouthernnews.com. Or, mail them to P.O. Box 490, Marion, IL 62959 (please don't enclose cash).

Or you can drop them off directly at:

• Marion Republican, 502 W Jackson St., Marion, IL 62959

• Harrisburg Register/Eldorado Journal/Gallatin Democrat/Ridgway News, 617 E Church St., Suite 6, Harrisburg, IL 62946

• Du Quoin Call, 18 E. Main St., Du Quoin, IL, 62832

• Randolph County Herald Tribune, 2204 State St., Chester, IL

• Carbondale Times, 701 W. Main St., Carbondale, IL 62901

Thank you for your support of this project.
