Residents will be transported back in time on Saturday as vintage vehicles line the parking spaces of two Benton museums.
Hosted by Downtown Benton, Inc., the antique automobile show will feature classic, unmodified pre-1950 cars and trucks. Executive director Sharon Pioveson said participants are encouraged to dress in the mode of the day.
“We plan to have 20 categories of entries and participants will judge the vehicles,” she said. “The entry fee is $10 per vehicle. We will have door prizes, drawings, vendors, lots of food and much more.
“We will be blocking off the parking lots of the Franklin County Garage Museum located in the 200 block of North Main Street and the parking lot next to the Franklin County Jail Museum. We ask that people not park in those two lots on Friday night.”
Pioveson said DBI members are getting help from another organization.
“Members of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America are helping us register the park the vehicles,” she said. “Vehicles will be registered between 11 a.m. and noon on Saturday, and the show opens at noon. We plan a parade at 5:30 p.m.”
Bill Shubert, Southern Illinois Region director of VCCA, said at between six and seven regional members will have their vehicles on display.
“I will be entering my 1929 Chevrolet AC International pickup truck,” he said. “Anyone who owns an older vehicle will tell you there is a story behind it."
