The new Save-A-Lot grocery store in Du Quoin is about a week from opening its doors.
A ribbon-cutting for the new anchor business at the Southtowne Shopping Center has been scheduled for 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15. The store will open to the public at 8 a.m.
Officials announced in August that the grocery chain would open in the space that previously housed Bottom Dollar IGA and Kroger. An agreement between the city and developers resulted in the city assisting with up to $150,000 in costs to remodel the store.
The new store is owned and operated by Wayne and Matt Sauer and Paul Schnettgoecke, who manage a number of Save-A-Lot locations in Missouri and Illinois.
City leaders have overseen a number of improvements in the neighborhood this year. Last spring, Taco Bell opened at the shopping center, and the city just replaced a nearby culvert in order to alleviate flooding problems in the area.
Next week's ribbon cutting will be open to the public.
