Memorial 5K is Saturday in Zeigler

An annual run-walk held in memory of a 14-year-old girl killed in accidental shooting in 2012 will be held this weekend in Zeigler.
The fifth-annual Ashley Kay Jackson Memorial 5K Run/Walk will take place Saturday, March 4 at the Zeigler-Royalton High School. The event honors the memory of Ashley Kay Jackson, who was killed by an accidental gunshot wound Oct. 6, 2012, just a few weeks before her 15th birthday.
Jackson attended Royalton Church of the Nazarene. She was a freshman at Zeigler-Royalton High School, where she was active in volleyball, softball and track. She enjoyed horseback riding and riding four wheelers with her dog, Buddy.  
Proceeds from the event benefit the Ashley Kay Jackson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Last year, Jackson's graduating year, everyone in Jackson's class of 2016 received a $500 scholarship to their schools of choice pending completion of their first semester with a passing GPA.
Sponsors include Zeigler-Royalton High School, Allard Farms, Chamness Farms, Schumacher Orthodontics, Maid Rite, Ultimate Rehab, Martin Accounting, Vantrease Funeral Homes, the Door Doctor, Jones Hydroblast, Zeigler Eagles Auxiliary No. 2444 and Zeigler Eagles Aerie No. 244,4 and many other family members and community members.
