Franklin County Treasurer John Gulley has issued a reminder to taxpayers the final installment of 2012 payable 2013 real estate taxes is due Monday, Sept. 9.
According to a prepared release from Gulley, payments are accepted in person at the Treasurer’s Office in the Franklin County Courthouse, at most banks in Franklin County or by mail.
Payments can also be made using Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express at the website www.franklincountyil.org.
A convenience fee will be charged for using credit or debit cards for payment. The fee is charged by the payment company and not the Franklin County Treasurer’s Office, Gulley said.
Final installment payments not made by close of business on September 9 will be subject to a 1.5 percent per month late payment penalty.
Additional penalties and costs may apply.
The penalty on late first installment payments will rise to 4.5 percent on Tuesday, September 10. Payments postmarked September 9 will be considered timely.
Banks will no longer collect payments after September 9, Gulley said.
