The Benton Consolidated High School speech team advanced 17 students in five events from the Charleston Sectional last weekend to the IHSA State Finals this Friday and Saturday.
IHSA speech competition has no school size divisions, so qualifiers will compete against the top 18 entries in the state at the Peoria Convention Center.
Advancing to state as sectional champions are Courtney Knight in Declamation and the Performance in the Round cast of Madalyn Hintz, Taylor Yucus, Amelia Richey, Kady Lampley, Tim Barnett, Caleb Abbott, Nick Hoffman, Kleighton Smith, Kennedy Allen, Tommi Poe, Hannah Auten and Wade Hutchens.
Advancing in second place was Emeri Farnam in Informative Speaking. Third-place qualifiers were Andrew Lampley and Emma Webster in Dramatic Duet and Kayla Krapf in Special Occasion Speaking. Webster will also advance as the fourth-place alternate in Poetry.
Hunter Foltz and Zac Thomason also advanced to the final round at the sectional meet.
