  • Obituary: MARGARET E. REITH, Pinckneyville

  • Margaret E. Reith, 102, of Pinckneyville passed away at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Benton Rehab and Health Care Center, Benton.
    Margaret was born on Aug. 22, 1910, in Pinckneyville, a daughter to Alford H. and Clara M. (Gieser) Zahn. On Nov. 1, 1931, she married John Francis Reith in St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pinckneyville, and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1988.
    Mr. Reith was the former Pinckneyville fire chief for many years. Mrs. Reith was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pinckneyville and was confirmed in 1923. Mrs. Reith was a faithful and loyal member of her church. She was a member of the church choir for many years and past president of the Women's Guild. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, receiving her pin in 1978. Mrs. Reith was also a member of White Shrine and Royal Neighbors. She was very active in the Pinckneyville Fire Department in her younger years and was a very loving, wonderful mother.
    Survivors include one son, Charles E. (Juliette) Reith of Panama City, Fla.; one daughter, Karen (John) Golliher of Benton; a very dear nephew, Randy (Carol) Zahn of Omaha, Neb; four grandchildren, John Patrick (Connie) Golliher, David Shannon (Vickie) Golliher, Stephen Francis (Gail) Reith and Colette Elaine Reith; seven great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Charles H. Zahn.
    Funeral services will be held at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pinckneyville, at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, with Pastor Cindy Bean officiating. Interment will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Pinckneyville. Friends may call at the church from 9 to 11 a.m.
    Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ or Wounded Warriors.
