Brenda Sue Fisher Ferguson, PhD, 70, of Marion, Ill., and Davenport, Fla., passed away on Jan. 3, 2013, in Davenport, Fla.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in her honor at Herrin Civic Center Auditorium with the Rev. Burton Wills officiating, 101 South 16th St., Herrin, IL 62948, on Jan. 28, 2013, at 6 p.m. A time of remembrance and fellowship will be held immediately following the tribute in the Ballroom.
Dr. Brenda Ferguson was born in Macedonia to Bill and Earlene Boyles Fisher on Jan. 30, 1942. Brenda was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Her interests included her faith, family, friends, golf, travel, dancing and playing bridge.
Dr. Ferguson graduated from Benton High School in 1959. She earned a 4-H scholarship to the University of Illinois where she achieved her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees of Education; and an Administrative Certificate and Doctorate Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University. She worked as a Teacher/Administrator in Rantoul, Belleville and Herrin and went on to become the Director of Williamson County CTE Systems and later was appointed as Senior Advisor to the Governor for Workforce and Education for the State of Illinois. She finished her career as Williamson County Career and Technical Education System Director.
In addition to her 4-H Scholarship she also received many other accolades including, but not limited to, the following: Mid-South Regional Partnership Coalition Award, IL Vocational Association Affiliate Professional Gold Award, IL Vocational Association Educator of the Year Award, and a Charter Member of the IL 4-H Hall of Fame. While at the University of Illinois, Brenda was voted Snow Ball Queen as well as Miss Michigan State on the prestigious U of I Homecoming Court. She was also the program director for the Block I. Brenda was a member of the Delta Pi sorority in Herrin.
Brenda is preceded in death by her father, William Douglas Fisher of Macedonia.
Brenda is survived by her mother, Earlene Fisher; spouse, Jeff Ferguson; mother-in-law Rosanna Ferguson Brooks; Daughters, Terri and Glenn Beaubien and Tamala and Matthew McDermott; grand-daughters, Micha Rotz, Brittany and Cassie Moore and step-granddaughters Katie McDermott Lugo and Kimberly McDermott.
