Gerald Lee “Pete” Wallace, 74, of Christopher died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at his home.
Mr. Wallace was born on Nov. 28, 1938 in Georgetown, Ohio, the son of Jacob Alfred Wallace and Elizabeth (Purdon) Wallace. He married the former Vanessa LaBrier on Jan. 8, 1974, and she survives.
Gerald was a retired security guard and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the First Apostolic Lighthouse in Christopher and enjoyed mechanic work. One of Pete’s final blessings was to be able to see a photo of his newest granddaughter, Nevaeh, on the day of his passing.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Vanessa Wallace, Christopher; 14 children, Raymond Wallace, Du Quoin, Jack Wallace, Mt. Vernon, Martha Wallace, Du Quoin, Mike Wallace, Du Quoin, Mary Wallace, Du Quoin, Melinda Wallace, Du Quoin, John Wallace, Du Quoin, Diane Hervey, Christopher, Kristen (William) O’Brien, Coello, Alma (Bascum) Barnett, Zeigler, Larry (Kayla Espinoza) Wallace, Christopher, Steven (Kesha) Wallace, Christopher, Vanessa (Robert Yasko) Baugh, Christopher, Heather Holland, Christopher; several grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one expected in June; two brothers, two sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wallace was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joshua Wallace; and a grandson.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home and Crematory in Benton. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Ryan Thorpe officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Du Quoin.
